The CAT Associate Scheme offers training support to talented young dancers who, at this stage, are not able to recieve a place on the CAT programme.
Places are offered in two ways; to dancers who are unsuccessful at the main audition or who are aged 11 or 17 and fall outside the age bracket for entry to the CAT.
The students that are considered are those that show excellent commitment and potential to progress in dance training.
Continuing with the ethos of the CAT programme, the Associate Scheme aims to give the young people access to a consistent, high level of training through participation in the weekly CAT Foundation Contemporary technique classes, led by members of the CAT teaching faculty.
In addition the Associate students will have the opportunity to see performances by international visiting companies to The Lowry and take part in choreographic projects with leading national dance artists.
The first major opportunity that the CAT Associates will have in 2011 is the Signatures performance event that will take place at The Lowry at the end of 2011. This unique project follows the choreographic style of an international dance artist and asks performance companies to respond by creating their own interpretation, to be performed in The Lowry's Quays Theatre alongside other North West youth dance groups.
This extension to the CAT scheme has enabled us to offer 20 associate places to talented young dancers over the course of the next academic year (2011/12).
Membership on the CAT Associate Scheme is available for 1-year only and once the scheme comes to a close with a final performance sharing, support and guidance will be offered to other schemes that can offer a more intense and fulfilling opportunity, thereby increasing each member’s progression into more specialised areas.
