Jonathan Poole

Jonathan graduated from The Northern School of Contemporary Dance in 1996 and worked with Arc Dance Company under the directorship of Kim Brandstrup from 1996 to 2004 performing in several of the companies repertoires including the lead role of Orfeo (1997/2001), The Return of Don Juan (1999) Saints and Shadows (2001), Brothers (2002) and Hamlet (2003).
During this period Jonathan also undertook a variety of freelance projects including a solo performance role in Robert Wilson's production of Aida at The Royal Opera Covent Garden (2004) and The Royal Opera de La Monnaie / du Munt Brussels (2005). Turandot at The Royal Opera Covent Garden, Choreographed by Kate Flatt (2001, 2002, 2004, 2009).
In 2005 Jonathan was appointed as a dancer and assistant teacher with Odyssey Dance Theatre in Singapore performing works by the Artistic Director in Singapore, Korea and Armenia before returning to the UK in 2006 to take up the position of Education and Community Dance Worker at The Northern School of Contemporary Dance. This appointment centered on being the lead technique teacher and mentor to The Yorkshire Young Dancers, Centre for Advanced Training Scheme in Dance.
Upon leaving NSCD in 2007, Jonathan formed The JP Project receiving arts council funding for a premier performance of ‘…even silence holds breath' performed at The Viaduct Theatre, Dean Clough Mills in Halifax in October 2008.
As part of the research and development for this work, Jonathan was invited to partake in the annual Summer Residency Program at The Watermill Centre, Long Island New York under the Directorship of Robert Wilson. Working over an 8 week period with international artists and companies to experiment and collaborate on artistic ventures for future performances and exhibitions.

In February 2009, Jonathan was appointed the Centre for Advanced Training Manager at The Lowry, tasked with developing the new CAT Scheme for the northwest region and marking the final piece of the strategic development by the Department for Education's Music and Dance Scheme in providing high quality training and nurturing in dance to all areas of the country.
