U.Dance 2013

The North West platform is the selection event for the National Platform U.Dance.

This year, Youth Dance England’s national youth dance festival took place in Leeds in July!  During 4 days, the festival gave some of the best youth dance groups in the UK the opportunity to perform in high-profile venues across the city at the only event of its kind.

There were plenty of opportunities to take part in the festival this year. You could choose from a huge schedule of performances from groups from across England, Scotland and Wales; book onto the exciting workshop programme for teachers and young people, and see dance for film and camera exhibitions and much more. Visit the U.Dance website  for more information about what was on offer!

Best of all there was the opportunity to support some of our fantastic regional youth dance groups who were representing the North West at the festival.

Who was performing?

This year at U.Dance NW 2013, a panel of regional young people and dance artists chose two groups North West groups to go on to the U.Dance 2013 national platform. These groups were:

Eleven (Formby High School)

D.O.P.E (CD Crew) - Cheshire Dance

Also chosen to perform at the platform was J&S from Manchester/Cheshire who were
selected by Youth Dance England to be a part of the strand U.Dance Dimensions, a platform for individual young dancers, duets or groups of up to 30 dancers to present pieces of up to 20 minutes long, that expand pre-conceived ideas about youth dance and present high quality dance work. The piece is choreographed by Joe Delaney, student of The Lowry's CAT programme and Manchester City College.

Choreography by James Rosental who took part in this years YDE Young Creatives programme was chosen to be performed alongside the three national youth dance companies at The West Yorkshire Playhouse on the Saturday evening. James is also a student on The Lowry's Centre for Advanced Training Scheme.
