On 22nd and 23rd March 2014 NorthWest Dance played host to the region’s largest youth dance festival.
Over two nights, youth dance companies from all over the North West showcased their very best talents in an exhilarating evening of exciting and varied dance. From Contemporary to Break dance, Bharata Natyam to theatre, and a fusion of everything in between, there really was something for everyone.
Companies from across the region sent in their applications to get involved in U.Dance 2014. Companies were asked to send a video submission of their piece for the panel to see before making their final selection on who would perform at this fantastic festival.
Successful applicants were chosen by a panel of dance experts from the NorthWest, and Lowry Youth Dance Ambassadors, selected for their individual skills and experience so applicants were in the best of hands. The panel really were spoilt with the high standard and variety of dance that was submitted.

We also included a film strand to this years submission process: U.Dance NW On Screen. NorthWest Dance screened new dance films made by or featuring young people in the main performance programme from The Brewery and Dare Youth Dance Companies from Cumbria!
Coincidentally, at the time of U.Dance we were lucky enough to have a Dance on Film exhibition in our Gallery called In The Frame, exploring the presentation of dance through image and action. Our dancers took a look around the gallery, before setting off with their own cameras around The Lowry to create their very own ‘Dance on Film’ photos and videos using the hashtag #UDanceAnywhere(as part of The Lowry's #DanceAnywhere campaign)A true celebration of movement.
